Rapid HIV

Testing services are free, confidential, and offered to those who walk-in to our office without an appointment.

Chattanooga CARES uses a rapid 20-minute testing device called OraQuick. With a simple finger prick, you will receive your test results within 20 minutes.

Testing is performed during normal business hours. We ask that you come 30 minutes before closing to ensure there is enough time to receive your results.

Rapid Hepatitis C

Chattanooga CARES uses OraQuick, rapid, tests. The test looks for the antibodies your body produces when it is fighting the Hepatitis C virus. You will have results within 20 minutes.

Testing is performed during normal business hours, no appointment is necessary.

Sexually Transmitted Infections

Chattanooga CARES provides free and confidential testing for Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, and Syphilis.

Results for these tests will be available within two weeks.

Mobile Unit Testing

What if testing came to you? In addition to testing in our offices, Chattanooga CARES also utilizes a mobile testing unit. Now the convenience and confidential service of free HIV, HEP C, STIs testing by Chattanooga CARES may be in or near your neighborhood.

  • Do I have to give blood for this test?

    Not necessarily. Chattanooga CARES offers quality OraQuick HIV testing. Clients can choose the OraQuick oral fluid rapid test (mouth swab) or a simple finger stick (small drop of blood).
  • How long will it take?

    The OraQuick HIV rapid tests take 20 minutes to process. You should plan on being at the testing facility for 30 minutes.
  • How private is it?

    Chattanooga CARES provides a private testing waiting room for privacy. Once you have entered the waiting room, the only people with whom you will be in contact are the Rapid Testing Specialists. All information discussed between you and your specialist is confidential.
  • What happens if I'm positive?

    With proper treatment, one can live a long and productive life with HIV. The staff at CARES will help you link to care and find all of the resources you need to live with HIV. Chattanooga CARES medical clinic (the Chattanooga Primary Care Center) offers primary care and HIV care to HIV-positive individuals. Financial assistance for medical treatment and prescriptions is available for those who qualify. A variety of other services are also available to our clients and their families.
  • Do I have to come to your offices to get tested?

    In addition to testing at our office, CARES also has a mobile testing unit that travels into different neighborhoods. There are also organizations who partner with Chattanooga CARES to host testing events. For more information on these locations, click here.
  • Do you test for more than just HIV?

    Chattanooga CARES also offers free Hepatitis C and STI (syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia) testing.
